Zika virus: what we need to know?

Abstract: Zika virus is one of the emerging viruses and is of significant threat to human health globally. It is a mosquito borne flavivirus similar to dengue, yellow fever, and West Nile viruses. It was reported about 5 decades ago and then it spreads to different parts of the world. Large outbreaks were reported on Yap Islands in 2007. Now it has gained wide attention globally by health communities. Major vector for virus transmission is Aedes aegypti mosquito. ZIKV infection is mostly asymptomatic but it is also resp… Show more

“…Influenza A and influenza B are the two key viral strains blamable for inflicting infection, a transmissible respiratory illness in humans. Additionally, Zika virus infection also seems to be the reason behind the influenza‐like illness in certain cases . In 2009, the rapid worldwide spread of an emerging re‐assorted strain, influenza A(H1N1)pdm09, was detected in the USA along with Mexico.…”

“…Emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases are one of the most intimidating threats to human race, responsible for an immense burden of disabilities and deaths. [1] Pandemics of Spanish flu, [2] swine flu, [3] bird flu, [4] Zika [5] and Ebola virus, [6] deadly and wide-spread epidemics of SARS and MERS, [7] as well as the ongoing outbreak of COVID-19 epidemic, originated in China in 2019, stroke countries and emerge as the most recent examples of widespread infections reported in this century. [8] Unfortunately, most researches focus on finding cures and vaccines for these diseases instead of give diagnostic field its well contribution of these researches to help to diagnose it in rapid and precise approach to accelerate the quarantine; in the recant years Discovery of the clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR) and CRISPR associated protein (Cas) (CRISPR-Cas) revolutionized biology and is already pushing health care systems to the era of precise molecular medicine.…”

“…Neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) such as Zika, Chikungunya and Dengue are all vector borne arboviruses transmitted by the Aedes mosquitoes [1,2]. These classes of NTDs are indiscriminate; they infect infants, children and adult causing severe morbidity and mortality if not treated.…”
