Zero valent iron/poly(amidoxime) adsorbent for the separation and reduction of U(vi)

Abstract: Magnetic nanocomposite of zero valent iron (ZVI)/poly(amidoxime) (PAO) was prepared by polymerization of acrylonitrile on ZVI surface, followed by hydroxylamine (NH2OH) treatment to convert cyano group (-CN) into amidoxime group (AO). The characterization results showed that PAO stabilized ZVI magnetic composite (denoted as ZVI/PAO) was prepared successfully. ZVI/PAO was used as adsorbent for the separation of U(VI) from solutions. The effect of environmental conditions on U(VI) adsorption onto ZVI/PAO was stu… Show more

“…[204] In regard to the relatively low cost and ease of implementation, adsorption is considered as the most economical and effective method in this field. Inorganic adsorbents, [205,206] synthetic polymers [207,208] and new types of nanostructured materials [209,210] have been greatly explored to meet the above-mentioned demands (Figure 7a).…”

“…For mGO-PAO, remarkable weight loss was found at about 320 and 620 °C, which was attributed to the decomposition of amidoxime and polymerized amidoxime groups, respectively. 51,52 The results of TGA analysis proved not only the thermal stability of mGO-PAO but also the successful synthesis of the adsorbent.…”

“…Then, the TMP- g -AO sample has a 13.74% weight loss at 120–340 °C, which may be attributed to the decomposition of the amidoxime groups . Lastly, the weight loss is about 11.07%, which is due to the complete degradation and decomposition of the polymerized amidoxime group when the temperature is above 340 °C . Therefore, the mass ratio of the polymerized amidoxime group to TMP-g and the weight percent of the polymerized amidoxime group in dry TMP- g -AO are 0.423:1 and 29.7%, respectively.…”
