A new tool has been developed to help elucidate the differences in packing between different polymorphs, especially when the differences of interest are small. The technique builds upon the Hirshfeld fingerprint plot pioneered by Spackman and co-workers by subtracting the value at every point in a fingerprint plot from the value at every point in another. This is found to reveal differences that are not readily apparent to the eye. By summing the absolute values of these differences, a quantitative measure of the difference between two fingerprint plots can be obtained. The technique was applied to Ni and Cu trans-bis(2-hydroxy-5-methylphenonethanoneoximato) 10 complexes determined at two temperatures, with the Ni complex displaying temperature-dependent polymorphism. Difference Hirshfeld fingerprint plots were also generated for calculated structures from DFT simulations that were performed on the experimental structures. These demonstrated that the simulations reproduced the fine detail of the packing.

Soil health decreases and residual pesticides increase due to the application of inorganic fertilizers and pesticides continuously during the cultivation of crops. The effect of 12 hours or 24 hours soil submersion and chicken litters or zeolite application before planting on residual pesticides in soil and bulbs of shallots (Allium ascalonicum L.) are studied. Samples of soils and bulbs have proceeded after shallot cultivation conducted in Brebes, Indonesia. Then organophosphate residues in the samples are analyzed using gas chromatography in the Laboratory of the Indonesian Agricultural Environment Research Institute, Bogor. The data are compared to the standard of maximum residue levels (MRL) of pesticides in agricultural products. Results show that residual pesticides in treated soils are below the detection limit of the GC equipment, except malathion is detected with values ranging from 0.039-0.050 ppm. However, residual organophosphate pesticides in the bulbs are mainly below the maximum residue levels. The only exception is chlorpyrifos which has a value above the maximum residue levels of pesticides (0.076 ppm). Farmers should be educated in integrated pest management and applying synthetic pesticides as the last option for controlling pests and diseases.

Sewage sludge is an example of waste considered as biomass. The utilization of sewage sludge is more often realized through combustion, which simultaneously constitutes the recovery of energy from a renewable source. However, the obtained ash requires neutralization. An alternative method for landfilling of sewage sludge ash is its conversion into synthetic zeolites. One of them is Zeolite P. The study shows the results of thesynthesis of zeolite P from sewage sludge ash by chemical conversion. The conversion of sewage sludge ash was conducted at the activationtemperatures of 60°C and 90°C, crystallization temperatures of 60°C and 90°C, crystallization time of 72 hours and the SSA:NaOH ratio of 1:1.4. The research of sewage sludge ashes after zeolitization included the observation of changes of ash particles surface, the identification of crystalized phases, cation exchange capacity (CEC) and specific surface area. The optimalsynthesis conditions for zeolite P are the activation and crystallization temperatures of 90°C. CEC of modified sewage sludge ashes is greater than CEC of sewage sludge ash. The presented method of sewage sludge ash conversion allows to obtain a usable material.
