Zeolite synthesis from a high Si–Al fly ash from East China

Abstract: A high Al±Si Chinese¯y ash from Dou He power plant (Tangshan city, Hebei Province, Eastern China) was selected as starting material of the zeolitisation process. Zeolitic material was obtained by conventional alkaline activation using NaOH and KOH solutions. The process of synthesis was optimised by applying a wide range of reaction temperature, time and activation reagent concentrations. A high solution/¯y ash ratio was used in order to dissolve highly resistant Al±Si phases such as mullite. High yields were … Show more

“…The CSH gel on the solidified waste is a crush barrier between the solid phase of the immobilized pollutants and the liquid solution of the surrounding environment. The Ca/Si ratio of the raw materials composition of the solidified waste and pH of the environment are the most significant elements influencing product stability and its impact on the surrounding environment …”

“…A T of 150 °C was selected to favour the dissolution of mullite and quartz present in the unreacted material. 42 0.0043 mol mL -1 Na 2 CO 3 , NaHCO 3 , K 2 CO 3 and KHCO 3 solutions were prepared using ultrapure MilliQ water (resistivity 18.2 MΩ•cm, Millipore) and >97%-grade solid reactants from Sigma-Aldrich. A relatively high reactant concentration was selected in order to ensure an excess of carbonate and to achieve a range of pH values from ~8 up to ~12.…”
