Ytterbium-Doped Cesium Lead Chloride Perovskite as an X-ray Scintillator with High Light Yield

Abstract: Ytterbium-doped cesium lead halides are quantum cutting materials with exceptionally high photoluminescence quantum yields, making them promising materials as scintillators. In this work, we report ytterbium-doped cesium lead chloride (Yb 3+ :CsPbCl 3 ) with an X-ray scintillation light yield of 102,000 photons/MeV at room temperature, which is brighter than the current state-of-the-art commercial scintillators. The high light yield was achieved based on a novel me… Show more

“…[14] Lately, Choi et al proved that the quantum cutting process of Yb 3+ can also be observed in the CsPbCl 3 :Yb 3+ powders. [15] Gamelin et al demonstrated for the first time that Yb 3+ substituted exclusively at Pb 2+ sites in ytterbium-doped CsPbCl 3 , and adopted a pseudo-octahedral Cl − coordination environment similar to that of Pb 2+ . [16] Inspired by the aforementioned motivations, we first develop a modified solution crystallization method to successfully dope a series of rare earth ions (RE 3+ : Er 3+ , Yb 3+ , and Yb 3+ /Er 3+ pairs) into CsPbCl x Br 3−x SCs.…”

“…In this review, we highlight several parameters for further analysis in terms of pNC size and Yb content, as well as their PL QY, both in NIR and visible (Vis) spectral regions: amount and type of ligands, temperature of the reaction, and Yb-precursor type and its amount in the synthesis. All the dependencies revealed in the discussion later are based on the published data from the papers [ 13 , 15 , 17 , 23 , 26 , 31 , 43 , 44 , 46 , 55 , 56 , 57 , 58 , 59 , 60 ] and provided in Table 1 .…”

“…Their amount in the reaction mixture together with the molar ratio affects both the morphology and optical properties of synthesized NCs. Herein, the syntheses which used both OlAm and OlAc were considered for further analysis ( Figure 5 a–d) [ 13 , 15 , 17 , 23 , 26 , 31 , 43 , 44 , 46 , 55 , 56 , 57 , 58 , 59 , 60 ].…”
