Yrast levels inTi44

Abstract: The reaction "S("N, pny)"Ti has been studied with a view to populating high spin states in ""Ti. In singles and y-y coincidence experiments y-ray transitions in the ground state band and a negative parity band are seen and three levels connected to the ground state band, at 6508, 7671, and 8040 keV, are inferred. Angular distributions are consistent with stretched cascades. The lifetime of the 7671-keV level, presumed 10+, has been determined by the attenuated Doppler-shift method to be 2.7~0.5 ps. “…It thus appears, that by different experimental methods the existence of a highly excited rotational band in 44Ti starting at Eex~= 11 MeV has now been established experimentally. This band is of a quasimolecular type with a very small splitting between even and odd/-values and is in this respect different from the usual rotational type bands [13,14] observed in the lower part of the 44Ti spectrum. Further investigations of the members of the quasimolecular band by resonance and transfer reactions and a detailed comparison with theoretical calculations is presently being performed.…”

“…SD structure was predicted in 40 Ca by shell model calculations in [30,31]. A candidate for a SD 8p-8h structure in 40 Ca has been identified in [14] and the features of this band are described by cranked relativistic mean field calculations. In [32] the transition quadrupole moments for the SD band in 40 Ca have been experimentally determined.…”

“…A rotational band has been identified experimentally in 40 Ar by Ideguchi et al [13]. Based on the deduced quadrupole moment, the band has been identified as a SD one.…”
