Recent advances in technology have resulted in over-dependence on social media for communication purposes. With the emergence of various social media platforms, youths have become increasingly active users of social media and are driven to surf online information. As such, youths are susceptible to the influence of social media. Therefore, this research aims to determine the relationship between Youtube usage and youth netizens’ behaviors in the Malaysian context. A structured questionnaire was used to gather data from a sample of 132 youth netizens in Damansara, Kuala Lumpur. The data were analyzed using Pearson Correlation at an alpha (α) level of ≤ 0.05 via the Statistical Parkage for Social Sciences (SPSS) software. The relationship was measured based on Youtube access, purpose, motivations, and interests, lifestyle, self-personality, and communication skills. The findings showed a significant positive relationship between Youtube usage and youth netizens’ behaviors (r = .711, k < 0.05). It was envisaged that this study will advance our understanding of how Youtube videos influence youth behaviors.

<p class="0abstract">Advances of technology and innovation suggest new form and paths in language teaching. Social media use can be a great influence for English as a Second Language (ESL) students especially in writing competency. Despite of many positive reports that presented affordances in social media use, however, there are insufficient studies that investigate ESL trainee teachers’ perception on this matter. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate ESL pre-service teachers’ views upon leveraging the use of social media in teaching of writing focusing on the opportunities and challenges. This study employed qualitative methods where thirty-four ESL pre-service teachers from a public university were involved. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that ESL pre-service teachers perceived the use of social media in teaching writing can be of beneficial and similarly challenging. Opportunities stated by the participants include enhancement in collaborative learning, supporting students’ self-directed learning and simplify the teaching and learning processes. On the other hand, the challenges mentioned by the participants are that social media can be a source of distraction, deterioration in language and plagiarism. Thus, it is advisable that teachers play their roles responsibly in managing students’ activities online and also be equipped with technology skills to enhance the establishments of social media in ESL teaching of writing.</p>

Firm size, board of directors’ quality, managerial ownership and level of voluntary disclosure in Thailand

Despite intensive efforts to determine the nature of the relationship between the firm size and the level of voluntary disclosure (VDI), empirical studies of this issue have produced mixed results. This paper attempts to delve deeper into this complex phenomenon by employing a resource dependency perspective to hypothesize a model of mediation as board of directors’ quality index (BOQI) is moderated by a high concentration of CEO’s ownership (HCEO). The findings suggest that the larger firm size, the higher is the BOQI and this in turn will lead to the higher VDI. These relationships appear to be weaker when there is moderation as HCEO, produced by the mediation process of the BOQI, and when this process is controlled, the residual moderation of the treatment effect is reduced. Further, board size as control variable is found to have a positive significant influence on BOQI and VDI.
