Yoko–Dovyren Layered Massif: Composition, Mineralization, Overburden and Dump Rock Utilization

Abstract: Ultramafic–mafic complexes are widely developed in the Earth’s crust. They contain deposits of various minerals. The Yoko–Dovyren intrusive in the North Baikal Region, Russia, is considered an example of an intrusive containing diverse mineralization: Ni-Cu, Platinum group elements, Cr, Zr, B, and blue diopside. During the development of the deposit, a huge amount of magnesium-containing rocks are moved to dumps and have a negative impact on the environment. To minimize this process, overburden and host rocks … Show more

“…Importantly, ore chromites from the Sopcheozero deposit have varieties that differ in their chemical composition [22]. However, chromite varieties of the Sopcheozero deposit occupy different positions in the rock (one is inside silicate grains, the other is at the boundaries between them [22], which is typical, by the way, for some other layered massifsfor example, for Yoko-Dovyrensky [53]). There is no such clear confinement of Cr-spinel varieties to a certain structural position in the Nude-Poaz massif.…”

“…It was first identified as a specific mineral species in the Norilsk ores in 1975 [22]. Subsequently, the mineral was discovered in deposits and occurrences of the Northern Baikal region [23], Karelia [24], the Kola Peninsula [25], as well as in Canada [26], Greece [27], and a number of other countries (over 30 founds worldwide). The studied samples contain sobolevskite grains of various shapes and sizes.…”

“…The Yoko-Dovyren intrusion (~ 728.4 ± 3.4 Ma) of Siberia is amongst the best studied layered intrusions in Asia (Ariskin et al 2016;2018;2020;Kislov and Khudyakova 2020). This intrusion is linked with the East Siberian metallogenic (PGE-Cu-Ni) metallogenic province (Polyakov et al 2013), which is part of the ~ 720 Ma Irkutsk LIP .…”
