Yield and nutritive value response to row spacing and cultivar in forage rice

Abstract: Although the forage rice (Oryza sativa L.) cultivar 'Ruriaoba' has very high dry matter (DM) yield, it readily lodges after heading because of its high plant height. As a result, seed production and conventional cultivation of 'Ruriaoba' are very difficult. To improve this situation, we examined the effects of cultivar ('Ruriaoba' or 'Tachiaoba') and row spacing (30 [30-30-30-30] cm, 45 [30-30-30-45] cm, or 60 [30-30-30-60] cm) on the yield and nutritive value of forage rice. The lodging score of 'Tachiaoba' … Show more

“…In this study, we proposed a novel topdressing method after analysis of the relationships between grain yield and growth‐related factors. Both grain yield and biomass are influenced by growing season, planting density, and cultivars in southwestern Japan (Nakano & Morita, 2009; Nakano & Tsuchiya, 2012; Nakano, Morita, Hattori, & Sato, 2008, Nakano et al., 2012, Nakano, Hattori, & Morita, 2014, 2019). Thus, examining the relationships between grain yield and growth‐related traits of rice plants grown under various cultivation methods is very important for further adjustment of this method.…”

“…One of the efforts to increase fertilizer efficiency in swamps is applying of fertilizers according to the availability of nutrients in the soil, the varieties planted and rice planting system. Jajar legowo planting system is easy in plant maintenance (fertilization, pest control) and causes higher rice yields [8]. increasing rice production with the row legowo planting system must be supported by appropriate fertilization technology [9].…”
