Yeasts from Nanfeng mandarin plants: occurrence, diversity and capability to produce indole-3-acetic acid

Abstract: Plant growth promoters produced by microorganisms can play a significant role in the induction of some important physiological responses in the growth and development of plants. In this study, we provided a first insight into revealing the diversity of cultivable yeasts associated with Nanfeng mandarin (Citrus reticulata cv. Blanco) in China. Their capability to produce indole-3acetic acid (IAA) was analyzed. A total of 796 yeast strains were obtained by the enrichment isolation technique from citrus soil, cit… Show more

“…In line with this, auxin reporter lines and pharmacological inhibition of auxin synthesis confirmed auxin-like effects. Moreover, these findings are supported by a previous report where H. opuntiae cells yeast exhibited the ability to produce indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) (Peng et al 2018 ); however, H. opuntiae indirectly may affect plant growth by competing for both space and nutrients, since during direct interaction Arabidopsis fresh weight is reduced.…”

“…Nanfeng tangerine (Citrus reticulata Blanco) is a well-known delicacy used in China for its flavor and nutrition with a long cultivation history (about 1300 years) and widespread production [1,2]. Tangerine wines not only retain the flavor of Nanfeng tangerines but are also associated with the production of a variety of flavor components and biologically active compounds during the alcoholic fermentation process [3], including polyphenols [4].…”

“…For examples, three species of Hanseniaspora (H. uvarum, H. thailandica and H. opuntiae) were detected as endophyte in leaves of Nanfeng mandarin (Citrus reticulata cv. Blanco) in China (Peng et al, 2018). Also, H. uvarum was detected in the leaf galls formed by Pontania sawflies in four different plant species, especially at final stage of gall formation during July and September with an average relative abundance ranging from 1.21 to 9.45% (Glushakova and Kachalkin, 2017).…”
