Years of Life Lost Due to Cervical Cancer in Poland in 2000 to 2015

Abstract: The aim of the study was an analysis of years of life lost due to cervical cancer in Poland in the period 2000 to 2015 with consideration given to differences related to education and place of residence. The study material was 28,274 death certificates of all female inhabitants of Poland, who died in 2000 to 2015 due to cervical cancer. In order to calculate years of life lost, the authors used indices: SEYLLp (Standard Expected Years of Life Lost per living person), SEYLLd (per deaths) and AAPC (Average Annua… Show more

“…RR in the group of women with elementary education vs. university education was 1.7 in 2016. In contrast, for cervical cancer, RR was 5.8 [11]. This confirms the observation, noted in other studies conducted both in Poland [32] and in 22 European countries [33], that breast cancer is the most egalitarian of all cancers.…”

“…CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) data show that in the United States, approximately 14 million people are infected with HPV every year, 12,000 women a year suffer from cervical cancer and 4,000 die of it. Poland is among the countries with the highest incidence rates in Europe (over 3,000 cases per year) and cervical cancer mortality (7.9 cases per 100,000 women) [11].…”

“…In the study, apart from crude death rates (CDR) and standardised death rates (SDR), the standard expected years of life lost (SEYLL) index was also used. Measures expressing premature mortality in units of lost years of life are more and more frequently used to assess the health status of the population in international epidemiological literature [11,12,13,14,15,16].…”
