Yb‐indiffused LiNbO3 annealed/proton‐exchanged waveguide lasers

Abstract: SUMMARYFor realization of new functionalities and exploration of application areas for LiNbO 3 optical waveguide devices, rare earth element doped LiNbO 3 waveguide lasers have been studied. The authors have proposed a waveguide laser using ytterbium (Yb) as the rare earth element and an annealed/proton-exchanged waveguide as the optical waveguide. In the present research, various characteristics of the Yb:LiNbO 3 needed for design and fabrication of the devices were measured. A waveguide laser was designed an… Show more

“…What's more, the InGaAs laser diode [5] with emission wavelength at 800-980 nm which well match the absorption band of Yb 3 þ ions makes it as the powerful pump source for high quality Yb 3 þ lasers [6]. As a result, by combining the excellent nonlinear optical properties of LN crystal with the better optical characteristics of Yb 3 þ ions, the Yb 3 þ doped LN crystals [7][8][9] for promising future multifunctional compact all-solid-state lasers have absorbed the researchers' attention.…”

“…2 of 8 integrated in high-power lasers on a TFLN platform [16,17]. The on-chip Yb 3+ -doped waveguides have already been demonstrated on weakly guiding ion-diffused waveguides in Yb 3+ -doped bulk LN [18][19][20]. These waveguides feature weak optical confinement and large bending radius due to the low index contrast.…”
