YAG:Ce3+ Transparent Ceramic Phosphors Brighten the Next‐Generation Laser‐Driven Lighting

Abstract: Y3Al5O12:Ce3+ (YAG:Ce3+) transparent ceramic phosphors (TCPs) are regarded as the most promising luminescent converter for laser‐driven (LD) lighting. High‐quality YAG:Ce3+ TCPs are still urgent for high efficiency LD lighting devices. YAG:Ce3+ TCPs in a vacuum ambience by using nano‐sized raw materials are prepared. Controlling defects by adding nano‐sized MgO and SiO2 simultaneously enables a high transmittance nearly 80%. After annealing in air furthermore, the luminous efficiency is enhanced greatly from 1… Show more

“…where I S and I S0 are the integrated fluorescence intensities (270-370 nm) of the Ce 3+ with and without Tb 3+ doping, respectively. The ET efficiency for the NaCeF 4 :xat%Tb NCs (x=1, 3,5,10,15,20,25,30) were therefore calculated to be 10%, 16%, 45%, 63%, 71%, 78%, 88%, 95%, respectively. In Fig.…”

“…8,9 Lanthanide ion Ce 3+ possesses low 4f-5d multiplets and simple 4f multiplets and is widely applied for lanthanide luminescence. 10,11 Some monodisperse and well-defined NaCeF 4 based NCs have been synthesized. Lei et al synthesized NaCeF 4 :Er 3+ /Yb 3+ NCs via the high temperature coprecipitation method.…”

“…In 2020, for the first time, Yao et al achieved high-quality Ce: YAG transparent ceramic phosphors with a high transmittance of 80% and high luminous efficiency (LE) of 223 lmW −1 , through the substitution of Mg 2+ -Si 4+ for Al 3+ -Al 3+ to control the defects. 16 In addition, Du et al first reported the fabrication of Ce: Y 3 (Mg 1.8 Al 1.4 Si 1.8 ) O 12 (YMASG) transparent ceramics having a broad color area, from yellow-green to the orange-red region in the color coordinate diagram. 13 Moreover, the luminescent character of Ce: YMASG phosphor is similar to that of Ca-α-sialon: Eu, what's more, although its photoluminescence excitation (PLE) spectra match better with blue LED chips compared to the PLE of Ca-α-sialon: Eu.…”

“…Transparent ceramics are a very promising alternative to single crystals as optical materials, for example, in laser technology or in solid-state lighting. 1,2 They have similar or better thermal and mechanical properties, appropriate spectroscopic properties, and offer considerable economic advantages. It is possible to manufacture materials with a gradient concentration of dopants.…”
