Abstract

The present work was carried out to check hepatoprotective potency of ethanolic extract of Andrographis paniculata. The whole plant extract of A. paniculata was used for the treatment of toxicity induced in the liver of albino rat, Rattus norvegicus by using thioacetamide (TAA). Thioacetamide toxicity in the animal was manifested by the significant increase in the level of serum bilirubin, ALP, SGPT, and SGOT while significant decrease in liver protein. Administration of ethanolic extract of A. paniculata at different doses(200 mg and 250 mg/kg b. w. showed significant decrease in the level of serum bilirubin, ALP, SGPT, and SGOT but increase in the level of protein in the liver when compared with induced rats. These results thus proved the potential hepatoprotective effect of ethanolic extract of A. paniculata.
