Abstract

Introduction: The transition to fatherhood starts from pregnancy to one year of birth and emerges the social changes both physically and psychologically. These changes are often not accompanied by adequate knowledge and skills and sources of information. It has an impact on the adaptation process to fatherhood and it also increases the risk of mental health problems when facing the transition process to become a father. This review aims to map the literature on adaptation to parenthood from the point of view of the experience of being a father. Method: This scoping review used the Arksey and O'Malley framework and a web-based application to select relevant articles till the 8 articles that were reviewed. Result: The results of the review map several themes such as the adaptation process, psychological impacts to the factors affecting the transition process. The literature gap found was the difference between the desire of fatherhood to be involved with the role of health professional services. In addition, in mixed methods designs, the use of larger samples was rarely undertaken to explore further information regarding the adaptation of fatherhood during the transition period. Discussion: the transition process to becoming a father requires adaptation by attention to the factors that influence it.
