Xuebijing injection alleviates liver injury by inhibiting secretory function of Kupffer cells in heat stroke rats

Abstract: XBJ can alleviate HS-induced systemic inflammatory response syndrome and liver injury in rats, and improve outcomes. These protective effects may be due to the ability of XBJ to inhibit cytokine secretion by KCs.

“…A pilot study by our group showed that the formation of heat stroke in the saline-treated rats was 73.6±1.8 min under heat stress (16) similar to the time determined by previous studies (17,18). Therefore, arterial blood (0.5 ml) was drawn from the right femoral artery at 0, 20, 40 and 60 min after the start of the experiment.…”

“…Carthami flos , Paeoniae Radix Rubra, Chuanxiong Rhizoma, Salviae miltiorrhizae and Angelicae sinensis Radix are the main constituents of XBJ. XBJ has been widely used in the clinic to treat sepsis and multiple organ dysfunctions [10,11,12]. Recent studies showed that XBJ reduced patient mortality due to sepsis by inhibiting T-cell growth [13].…”

“…8). XBJ injection is a traditional Chinese medicine preparation and has been widely used clinically for the treatment of sepsis, and it is beneficial to inhibit inflammatory reaction and oxidative stress in China [12]. The main effective components of XBJ are safflower yellow A, tetramethylpyrazine, paeoniflorin, and ferulic acid [9].…”

“…XBJ (4 mL/kg) was injected into the test group (intraperitoneal injection), and the control group received saline solution (4 mL/kg, intraperitoneal injection). All the injections were performed twice per day for 7 d [12]. To prevent cannibalism or injury caused by normal socialization, each rat was given a neck collar [13] and housed individually in standard experimental cages in an environmentally controlled room and were fed standard rat chow and water ad libitum.…”
