Cette etude consacree a la systematique des Hyraco'ides, en particulier a ceux du genre Procavia, est une tentative de revision de cet ordre de Mammifcres. DC profondes divergences d'opinion, resultant d'une analyse critique des travaux de Hahn (1934) et de Bothnia (1966), et de Pexamen de nombreuses collections, justifient cette mise au point. Deux genres sont retenus : Procavia et Dendrohyrax. Les rccherches sur le premier aboutissent a la mise en evidence d'une espece unique, elle-meme composee de 16 formes geographiques dont les caracteres distinctifs et les aires de repartition sont precises. Le second est provisoiremcnt divise en deux sous-genres, Dendrohyrax et Heterohyrax, qui ne sont peut-etre que deux especes d'un meme genre. En effet, les Heterohyrax constituent une entite monospecifique et la validite des 3 especes du sous-genre Dendrohyrax reste incertaine.
