XeCl laser system with a 25 cm × 25 cm output aperture

Abstract: Novel periodic oscillations of magnetoresistance observed in a recent quantum Hall effect experiment on a narrow two-dimensional sample have been explained on the basis of a Josephson-type effect. The calculated values of the period of oscillation in the regions of plateaux 2 and 4 agree excellently with the measured values.
