Reaction of Ph 2 SbCl 3 with 2,2'-bipyridinea nd Me 3 SiOSO 2 CF 3 releasesc hlorobenzene, which is interpreted as ar eductive (Sb V /Sb III )e liminationf rom ac omplex of as tiboraniumc ation.C onversely,r eactions of Ph 2 SbCl 3 with 4-methylpyridine-N-oxide and AgOSO 2 CF 3 give redoxresistant complexes with the genericf ormulae [Ph 2 SbCl 3Àx L x + 1 ][OTf] x ,i ncludingacompound containing a pnictogen(V) trication.
Coordination complexes involving p-block element Lewis acceptor centers offer opportunities for the discovery of new reactivity that is distinct from those of transition-metal complexes. Complexeso fa ntimony represent the most diverse series, [2] including examples of mono-, [3] di-, [4] and tri- [5] cations featuring Sb III .C omplexes featuring Sb V as the Lewis acceptor center have been reported for cations of the general formulae [Ph 4 SbL] + and [Ph 3 SbL 2 ] 2 + ,i nw hich L = 4-dimethylaminopyridine, Ph 3 PO, or 4-methylpyridine-N-oxide( OPyrMe). [1] In most cases, the cationic complexes are synthesized by replacing anionic halide substituents (X) on ap -blockc enter with classical Ld onors.
