WW domain binding protein 2 (WBP2) as an oncogene in breast cancer: mechanisms and therapeutic prospects—a narrative review

Abstract: Background and Objective: WW domain binding protein 2 (WBP2), considered an emerging breast cancer gene, functions as a binding partner for WW domain proteins. The WBP2 gene is involved in mediating the malignant development and clinical drug resistance of breast cancer, but its potential mechanism remains unclear. Therefore, it is necessary to elucidate the mechanism of WBP2 in breast cancer, which will help to provide new methods for clinical diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. “…CBP contains a conserved TAZ domain, while WBP2 features a conserved GRAM domain (Supporting Information: Figure ). The structural domains of CBP and WBP2 are also consistent with previous reports (Chen et al, 2017; De Guzman et al, 2004, 2005; Liu et al, 2022). Using the JASPAR core database, the TFBSs of NFYB on peak were predicted.…”

“…Overexpression of WBP2 has been observed in several types of cancer, including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and is thought to contribute to tumour growth and progression [30]. WBP2 is involved in multiple tumour-promoting signalling pathways and plays a dominant role in tumorigenesis.…”

“…The overexpression of WBP2 in HCC is believed to contribute to tumour growth and progression by promoting cell proliferation, survival, and migration. WBP2 has been shown to interact with the oncogenic protein c-myc and enhance its transcriptional activity, promoting cell proliferation and survival [41]. WBP2 has also been shown to promote the migration and invasion of HCC cells by interacting with the actin cytoskeleton and regulating cell morphology.…”
