Writing and Communication of Agricultural Information by Some Graduate and Post-Graduate Students of the Department of Crop Science, University of Maiduguri, Nigeria

Abstract

The presentation of scientific information in some Bachelor of Science Agriculture (BSc Agric.) Project and (MSc) thesis reports of the Department of Crop Science, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Maiduguri was assessed on forty-nine (49) project and thesis reports. The assessment shows that orderly and explanatory reporting was lacking among the Bachelor of Science (BSc) reports. The post-graduate reports were generally orderly, but cases of failure to communicate ideas and information clearly were rampant. Circumlocution and speculative reporting was rife with the Master of Science (MSc) reports. The implications of these flaws and other aspects of scientific writing were fully discussed and suggested guidelines for better writing given for agricultural research scientists' use.
