Wpływ gastrektomii rękawkowej na poziom irisiny w surowicy pacjentów z chorobliwą otyłością

Abstract: Introduction: Irisin, a recently identified myokine, is associated with increased energy expenditure and has a potential role in obesity. Therefore, we investigated circulating irisin levels in morbidly obese patients undergoing sleeve gastrectomy (SG). Materials and methods: Thirty morbidly obese patients undergoing SG and 30 healthy subjects were included. All participants were evaluated at baseline and again at three months post-SG. Body weight and height, the lipid profile, and plasma glucose, HbA1c, insul… Show more

“…The decreased circulating irisin level and Fndc5 gene expression in muscle are correlated with increased body mass index, fasting glucose, and total cholesterol (Huh et al, 2012). Additionally, irisin stimulates muscle accretion by inducing myogenesis and inhibiting muscle atrophy (Demirpence et al, 2016;Huh et al, 2014;Moreno-Navarrete et al, 2013;. AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) plays a central role in the regulation of fuel metabolism in skeletal muscle.…”

“…However, it remains to be confirmed whether the decrease in circulating irisin levels at 6 months were due to decreasing muscle mass, the surgery itself, or a direct effect of the resulting weight loss. Recovery to the initial values 12 months after BS has been suggested to reflect adaptation to the altered energy intake and body weight [26]. Extended investigations are required to determine whether irisin levels remain stable over the long term after BS.…”

“…This needs further validation in larger samples. Studies in adults are sparse and contradictory, with levels of irisin decreasing after bariatric surgery in 1 study and remaining unchanged in another . It remains unclear whether the postsurgical changes in myokines are secondary to weight loss or owing to the bariatric surgery itself.…”
