Wound healing center establishment and new technology application in improving the wound healing quality in China

Abstract: Wound healing, tissue repair and regenerative medicine are in great demand, and great achievements in these fields have been made. In recent years, many of these successes have benefitted patients, especially in the field of chronic skin wounds. However, perfect tissue repair and regeneration of damaged tissues and organs are still great challenges in the management of trauma and diseases. In this paper, the main achievements in wound healing, tissue repair and regeneration in China are reviewed and the establ… Show more

“…Although there are some targeted methods for wound healing, it does not fundamentally solve the problem. 1 , 2 Wound healing consists of several distinct but overlapping stages, including haemostasis, inflammation, tissue remodelling and maturation. 3 , 4 , 5 Fibroblast, which play a significant role in wound healing, 6 could transform into myofibroblast expressing alpha‐smooth muscle actin (α‐SMA) by the influence of transforming growth factor‐β1 (TGF‐β1) after wound formation.…”

“…[ 1,2 ] The skin possesses a natural capacity for self‐regeneration; however, this process is limited in acute and extensive wounds, burns, and elderly and diabetic patients. [ 3 ] Current evidence suggests that around 100 million people require skin wound treatment every year in China, [ 4 ] and this number may continue to grow due to the aging population and increasing incidence of diseases such as obesity and diabetes. Despite autografts being considered as the gold standard treatment for skin regeneration, limitations in donor site availability and complications associated with repeated donor tissue harvesting demand new therapies for skin wound healing.…”

“…In terms of the treatment process of the disease, chronic wounds are mainly managed at home or community because of the long treatment cycle 5 . Although various regions have been exploring the establishment of wound healing centres with different operation modes, from the belief and experience of patients, especially the elderly patients, they prefer to look forward to the home wound service 6‐8 …”

“…5 Although various regions have been exploring the establishment of wound healing centres with different operation modes, from the belief and experience of patients, especially the elderly patients, they prefer to look forward to the home wound service. [6][7][8] The European Wound Management Association defines home wound care as wound care implemented at homes by health care professionals or family caregivers, excluding that in long-term care sites such as nursing homes. 9 Patients with chronic wounds are reluctant to frequently travel a long distance to receive medical service because of wound pain, physical immobility, or age factors while minimising their exposure risk.…”
