Worse prognosis for IDH wild-type diffuse gliomas with larger residual biological tumor burden

Abstract: This study aimed to assess the association between biological tumor burden in pre-and post-operative status and overall survival (OS) in isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) wild-type gliomas, and to evaluate which volume was the best predictor of OS. Thirty-four patients with treatment-naïve IDH wild-type gliomas (grade II, 6; III, 15; IV, 13) were retrospectively included. Three pre-operative tumor regions of interest (ROIs) were segmented based on the contrast-enhanced (CE), uid-attenuated inversion recovery (FLA… Show more

“…Likelihood ratios (LR) were used here as an alternative statistic for summarising diagnostic accuracy, as this approach does not depend on disease prevalence and is a more clinically useful measure than sensitivity and specificity 28 . LR was divided into PLR and NLR, where PLR is the ratio of the probability of a specific test result in a diseased population to the probability in a non‐diseased population, 29 and NLR is the opposite 30 . Typically a PLR above 10/NLR value below 0.1 would be considered strong evidence with which to rule in/rule out disease 31 .…”

“…Moreover, Tatekawa et al. showed that Flair hyperintense volume for IDH wild-type gliomas showed no significant association with OS ( 28 ). If the edema area is defined as the GTV of NE-LGGs, which can ensure the radiation dose coverage of tumor, the radiation damage risk to the surrounding healthy tissues will be increased due to the large.…”

“…The research of Jakola et al (27) showed that the blood-brain barrier was destroyed after the malignant transformation of NE-LGGs, and the enhanced area was much smaller than the edema area. Moreover, Tatekawa et al showed that Flair hyperintense volume for IDH wild-type gliomas showed no significant association with OS (28). If the edema area is defined as the GTV of NE-LGGs, which can ensure the radiation dose coverage of tumor, the radiation damage risk to the surrounding healthy tissues will be increased due to the large.…”

“…No relationship was observed between the LAT1 levels and tumor uptake capacity, suggesting that the possible lack of 18 F-FET uptake is not due to the poor expression of LAT1. The association between the biological tumor volume, as determined by different techniques including contrast-enhanced volume on T1-weighted images, FLAIR hyperintense volume, and 3,4-dihydroxy-6- 18 F-fluoro-L-phenylalanine ( 18 FDOPA) hypermetabolic volume and the OS of IDH wild-type HGG patients has been studied by Tatekawa and co-workers [ 31 ]. Regardless of the tumor grade, 18 FDOPA hypermetabolic volume best predicted the OS of patients with IDH wild-type gliomas [ 31 ].…”
