Worse clinical outcomes following percutaneous coronary intervention with a high SYNTAX score

Abstract: Background:The synergy between percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with TAXUS and Cardiac Surgery (SYNTAX) score is an angiographic tool which is used to determine the complexity of coronary artery disease (CAD). We aimed to compare PCI versus coronary artery bypass surgery (CABG) in patients with a high SYNTAX score in order to confirm with evidence whether the former is really association with worse clinical outcomes. Methods:The National database of medical research articles (MEDLINE/PubMed), EMBASE dat… Show more

“…[17] The SYNTAX score was seldom being used as a prognostic tool in Interventional cardiology. However, newer scientific reports have shown its importance in Interventional cardiology as well, [18,19] but the fact that it also has limitations when compared with newer tools, we were compelled to further consider other tools. [20]…”

“…A high risk of restenosis was observed in patients with DM who underwent PCI, which may be associated with the need for more than two stents in MVD, as well as the continuous progression of diffuse atherosclerosis in non-culprit vessels [39]. At present, it is recommended to apply SYNTAX scores to the selection of revascularization strategies [40, 41]. Although the SYNTAX score might be considered useful in interventional cardiology, it has some limitations [42].…”

“…SYNTAX score is a tool to select revascularization strategies while Gensini score is a quick way to qualified the coronary stenosis. [ 29 , 30 ] In this study, we used Gensini score to investigate the association between coronary dominance and CAD and found that RD group prone to have high Gensini score than those with LD and CD. Many previous studies have shown that an LD system is predictive for the prognosis of patients with coronary emergencies.…”
