Worldwide Correlations Support COVID-19 Seasonal Behavior and Impact of Global Change

Abstract: Many viral diseases exhibit seasonal behavior and can be affected by environmental stressors. Using time-series correlation charts extrapolated from worldwide data, we provide strong support for the seasonal development of COVID-19 regardless of the immunity of the population, behavioral changes, and the periodic appearance of new variants with higher rates of infectivity and transmissibility. Statistically significant latitudinal gradients were also observed with indicators of global change. Using the Environ… Show more

“…SARS-CoV-2 reveals a seasonal behavior, which is generally in line with that seen for other respiratory viruses, such as influenza viruses and respiratory syncytial virus [ 177 , 178 , 179 ]. For example, in Europe and the United States, the highest SARS-CoV-2 burden, i.e., infections, emergency visits, hospitalizations, and deaths, can be expected between autumn and early spring [ 179 , 180 , 181 ].…”

“…This fact is particularly important because a study of the impact of latitude and hemispheres on the rise of mutant constellations has linked the NTD to SARS-CoV-2 seasonal behavior [ 25 , 27 ]. Note that worldwide correlations and time-series correlation charts provide strong support for the seasonal behavior of COVID-19 throughout the pandemic [ 67 , 68 ]. This should not be considered surprising.…”
