World feature detection and mapping using stereovision and inertial sensors

Abstract: This paper explores the fusion of inertial information with vision for 3D reconstruction. A method is proposed for vertical line segment detection and subsequent local geometric map building. Visual and inertial sensing are two sensory modalities that can be explored to give robust solutions on image segmentation and recovery of 3D structure from images, increasing the capabilities of autonomous vehicles and enlarging the application potential of vision systems. From the inertial sensors, a camera stereo rig, … Show more

“…An overview of the machine vision technologies is given in [12]. Multiple of these technologies are also already described in use cases similar to the ones at the EnRicH 2017 [2]. Approaches the task with stereo vision and inertial measurements to determine the position of the robot and its surroundings.…”

“…Among all the existing sensory techniques that can be potentially used for mapping, stereovision is probably the most studied method [14]. A stereo camera is the prime example of a passive optical triangulation system.…”
