Working Mechanism of Pile Group with Different Pile Spacing in Dense Sand

Abstract: Complex interaction mechanism exists between the pile group and soil. To realize the pile-soil load transmission mechanism in detail, the failure pattern of pile groups installed in dense sand considering different pile spacing was investigated by means of laboratory experimental model test and three-dimensional discrete element method. The results suggested that the narrow pile spacing was beneficial to the development of the pile tip resistance, and it enhanced the bearing performance of the pile group at th… Show more

“…Some results on the compressive bearing performance of single and double CEPs have been obtained through research [10,11]. In practical engineering, CEP pile groups are widely used [8,12]. The spacing between the piles is an important factor that affects the failure mechanism and bearing capacity of CEP groups.…”

“…From the current situation of domestic and foreign research, the study on CEP monopiles performed by domestic and foreign scholars has been perfected [2][3][4]. Many infuencing factors of CEP monopiles on the load-bearing performance and the intrinsic mechanism have been studied in depth [5], whereas research on the CEP group piles is still in the primary stage; however, most of the piles in practical engineering appear in the form of group piles [6,7], and CEP piles are gradually used in high-rise buildings, bridges, deep-sea platforms, and other projects, and many factors, such as environment and geological conditions, infuence these construction facilities. Te requirements for their bearing performance are gradually improved [8,9].…”

“…Also, the settlement of the piled raft decreased with increasing the number of piles. Chen et al [40] studied the failure mechanism of pile groups installed in sand under different pile spacing by means of laboratory experimental model tests. They stated that the narrow pile spacing was a key factor to the development of the pile tip resistance which may be useful to improve the bearing performance of the pile group at the initial stage of settlement.…”
