The increasing rate of the number of children with Autism showed the importance to focus on ways to reduce the symptoms faced by the children with Autism. Noting the scarcity of research focusing on this area, this paper aims to review the use of humanoid robotics as an assistive rehabilitation treatment for children with Autism according to objectives of shariah in Islam. Content analyses through literature search from the online database were used as a basis for this review paper write-up from main sub-fields of humanoid robotics, assistive rehabilitation treatment for children with Autism and objectives of shariah in Islam. The researchers also follow the four-step process model derived from Mayring (2008), forming the process model of (qualitative) content analysis. Based on the paper, it was found that the framework of objectives of shariah in Islam which includes the Islamic Principles in treatment and rehabilitation are tailored according to Shariah Law to moderate and tolerate the balances between the new technology and the help from the therapists through the potential behavioural and cognitive changes associated with a single exposure to the humanoid. This paper believes that upon incorporating the protection of the five necessary intents of objectives of shariah in Islam, the humanoid will be able to help those children with autism to gain a better life.

WhatsApp as a Source of Support for Parents of Autistic Children

SPARISK Support Group is a WhatsApp support group which offers parents of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) who enrol their children in a water therapy programme a platform to discuss various issues regarding caring for their autistic children. Advanced growth in technology has improved the prospect for these parents to share information and provide support. A qualitative phenomenological design was used in this study to explore the support these parents offered each other through the use of WhatsApp as a social media support group. Convenience sampling was used to select four participants who had either a child or children diagnosed with ASD who were between the ages of 7 and 16 years old, had been involved in the support group for 6 months, and lived in Penang, Malaysia. Data analysis discovered five emergent themes: (a) types of supplement and food suitable for autistic children, (b)positive experiences, (c) feeling glad, (d) informational support and (e) emotional support. Findings indicate giving the right supplement and food to autistic children and relating autistic children’s positive experiences while undergoing the water therapy programme were the main functions of the group, and having water therapy coaches answering their doubts as a valuable resource. It is suggested that the use of a social media support group on WhatsApp may provide continuous support to parents of autistic children, suggesting that the formation of similar groups on other social media platforms.

Autis merupakan salah satu jenis gangguan perkembangan dimana anak mengalami gangguan dalam interaksi sosial, berkomunikasi, serta masalah perilaku dan kognitif. Hal ini membuat pengasuhan anak autis menjadi penuh tantangan. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif yang bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi pengalaman ibu dalam merawat anak usia sekolah yang mengalami autis. Data didapatkan dari wawancara semi terstruktur pada 8 orang anak usia 8 sampai 15 tahun yang dipilih dengan menggunakan metode snow ball sampling. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan pendekatan Collaizi. Stres yang dialami orang tua selama perawatan anak yaitu meliputi: mengalami stres emosional, perlu mengontrol emosi anak, mengkhawatirkan hubungan dengan sibling, mengkhawatirkan masa depan anak, menghadapi masalah keuangan, dan mengupayakan pendidikan inklusi. Penelitian ini merekomendasikan perlunya upaya mensosialisasikan autis pada komunitas agar kualitas hidup ibu dan anak penderita autis menjadi lebih baik.
