Wood classification study based on thermal physical parameters with intelligent method of artificial neural networks

Abstract: In this study, 65 kinds of wood samples were classified by using artificial neural networks based on the measured value of wood thermal physical parameters. First, the thermal conductivities and the thermal diffusion coefficients of the wood samples were measured. The transient temperature rise curve of wood samples during the test process was recorded, and the characteristic values of the transient temperature rise curve were extracted by logarithmic curve fitting. The emissivity spectrum representing the the… Show more

“…These layers are fully interconnected with no interneuronal connections within the same layer. The functioning of BP neural networks is facilitated by a two-phase process: the forward propagation of the input signal and the subsequent backpropagation of the error which allows the adjustment of the underlying weights [51]. The genetic algorithm is a model that simulates the natural selection and genetic mechanisms of biological evolution in Charles Darwin's theory.…”

“…To compare the heat release performance of different flooring materials, and also to study the influence of different surface materials to the room heating effect, the paper conducts a study about the comparison among these commonly used surface materials by simulating their effect on the indoor thermal environment. Previously, Cao et al (2022) measured thermal properties of 65 kinds of wood species, including thermal conductivity, specific heat capacity, and surface emissivity. Based on these measured values, they constructed wood classification models using an artificial neural network.…”

“…Their research anticipated the potential of computer vision to enhance the accessibility of wood identification to the public and make significant contributions to the field of wood science. Cao et al (2022) utilized an artificial neural network trained using species-specific thermal conductivity trends to classify different species.…”
