Women’s Experience of Group Prenatal Care

Abstract: Group prenatal care (GPNC) is an innovative alternative to individual prenatal care. In this longitudinal study we used ethnographic methods to explore African American and Hispanic women’s experiences of receiving GPNC in two urban clinics. “…In the CPM, care is provided at a group setting to 8-12 pregnant women; with similar due month of delivery along with guest speakers (i.e., family member or a friend who has a previous experience of rearing children). [4] The premise of CPM is that learning and support are enriched by drawing on group resources; knowledge, ideas, and experiences of same group members and their experienced guest speakers.
