Wireless Sensor Network-Based Greenhouse Environment Monitoring and Automatic Control System for Dew Condensation Prevention

Abstract: Dew condensation on the leaf surface of greenhouse crops can promote diseases caused by fungus and bacteria, affecting the growth of the crops. In this paper, we present a WSN (Wireless Sensor Network)-based automatic monitoring system to prevent dew condensation in a greenhouse environment. The system is composed of sensor nodes for collecting data, base nodes for processing collected data, relay nodes for driving devices for adjusting the environment inside greenhouse and an environment server for data stora… Show more

“…It also provided an environment control facility for manual and automatic long-distance control and facilitated an optimized environment to grow paprika. Park and Park (2011) reported on a WSN-based greenhouse environmental monitoring and dew point control system that prevented dew condensation phenomena on the crop surface and played an important role in the prevention of disease infections. Berezowski (2012) reported the landscape of short-range wireless communication technologies for greenhouse management.…”

“…Nowadays, the agribusiness increasingly banks on automation using computer based systems and usage of robotics for replacing the activities performed by man power, usually more superior in performance to human [2]. There is a huge demand in the production of machines required for agricultural land by integrating computer, electromechanical and information systems due to the increasing complexity in performing farming [3].…”

“…Modern agribusiness is becoming increasingly reliant on computer-based systems, automation, and robotics that are taking over many of the tedious tasks formerly performed by humans, with superior performance in most cases [2]. The increasing complexity of agricultural systems force the production of agricultural machines integrating mechanical, electronic, computer, and information systems [3]. There is a need for the new methodologies to meet the increasing complexity of agricultural systems and this leads to the emergence of precision agriculture which aims to improve the efficiency of operation of agricultural enterprises and also the quality and consistency of products by compensating the vagueness and uncertainty of the environment [4].…”
