Wireless Power Charging in Electrical Vehicles

Abstract: Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) technology can transfer electrical energy from a transmitter to a receiver wirelessly. Due to its many advantages, WPT technology is a more adequate and suitable solution for many industrial applications compared to the power transfer by wires. Using WPT technology will reduce the annoyance of wires, improve the power transfer mechanisms. Recently, the WPT gain enormous attention to charging the on-board batteries of the Electric Vehicle (EV). Several well-known car manufacturing … Show more

“…So-called serial-serial (SS) and serial-parallel (SP) compensation topologies are among the most simple and applicable. Magnetic resonant coupling (MRC) became a prevailing technology for wireless power charging of EVs because of its better efficiency at larger distances between coils compared to inductive power charging [ 6 , 9 , 30 , 31 ]. Therefore, further focus is set on MRC WPT.…”

“…Despite the topology used, Re(Z 0p(h) ) can be determined using (9). However, it was found later that the accuracy of its assessment is less influenced by errors of current and voltage magnitudes and phases in the case of resonance conditions.…”

“…Far‐field transmissions are also referred to as the radiative type and can achieve a transfer distance of up to a few meters but with low efficiency. Despite having limitations on transfer distance, the near‐field transmission method, also referred to as the non‐radiative type, has advanced significantly due to better efficiency 2 . A transformer, for example, functions using near‐field WPT technology since it exploits the principle of magnetic induction to move energy from a primary coil to a secondary coil without requiring a direct electrical connection.…”

“…With fast innovations in mobile products, wireless power transfer and related technology have gained immense attention in recent decades. It becomes now what is informally known as the game-changing" solution for charging electronic devices [1]. The scale of WPT is not just limited to consumer electronics, but ever since electrical vehicles (EVs) have grown in popularity and demand, opportunities in the wireless charging market have significantly increased.…”
