Wireless network virtualization

Abstract: Abstract-The virtualization of wired networks and end computing systems has become one of the leading trends in networked information and communication technology (ICT) systems. In contrast relatively little virtualization has occurred in infrastructure based wireless networks, but the idea of virtualizing wireless access is gaining attention as it has the potential to improve spectrum utilization and perhaps create new services. In this paper we survey the state of the current research in virtualizing wireles… Show more

“…As states above, ref. [73] claims that MVNOs do not have any physical resources such as licensed spectrum and access networks while authors in [72] argue that MVNOs may have infrastructure. The author also describes that MVNOs can break the telecommunication value chain in the future network market.…”

“…• Infrastructure sharing: In this case, the infrastructure is the only resource that is being shared. It is possible to deploy WNV across different InPs or within an InP where virtualization based infrastructure sharing can be called cross-infrastructure virtualization [73]. Authors in [83] introduce a passive sharing and an active sharing of infrastructure.…”

“…Slicing can be done at different levels, namely: from application and flow slicing to hardware and spectrum slicing. As stated in [115], virtualization can be considered at different levels with respect to providers and operators:…”
