Wireless Gas Leak Detection and Localization

Abstract: Thousands of industrial gas leaks occur every year, with many leading to injuries, deaths, equipment damage, and a disastrous environmental effect. There have been many attempts at solving this problem, but with limited success. This paper proposes a wireless gas leak detection and localization solution. With a monitoring network of 20 wireless devices covering 200m 2 , 60 propane releases are performed. The detection and localization algorithms proposed here are applied to the collected concentration data, and… Show more

“…15.4e (2012) [6]. While the first two standards define a complete protocol stack, the latter only defines the physical and three distinct Medium Access Control (MAC) layers: Low Latency Deterministic Network (LLDN), Timeslotted Channel Hopping (TSCH), and Deterministic and Synchronous Multi-channel Extension (DSME).…”

“…The clean layering allows IEEE802. 15.4e TSCH to fit under an IPv6-enabled protocol stack for low-power wireless networks. This architecture was recently proposed by the IETF 6TiSCH Working Group (WG) 1 .…”

“…Semiconductor sources and detectors are promising, but problems such as thermal stability [15] and temperature compensation [16] persist. Localization of gas leaks was investigated in [17] for the case of propane gas. Recent developments include enhanced metal oxide sensor designs [10] and microcantilever sensors [18].…”
