Wireless body area network platforms evaluation

Abstract: This paper aims to propose an evaluation and a comparison of health-monitoring platforms based on wireless body area network (WBAN). We focused on the main concept behind these platforms individually as well as we classified these platforms based on the provided solutions and their main features. Important considerations in designing WBAN platforms are discussed as well. The main conclusion is that the mobility is less studied than other features then we give some perspectives about future useful platform whic… Show more

“…The proposed access network then provides the ability of exploring a set of technologies/frequencies (3G, 3G, WiMAX, WLAN) in the data routing process. Source: Hamdi et al (2014) 3.2 Telemonitoring contexts and issues in the literature Alghamdi and Fouchal (2013) proposed an interesting classification of patient telemonitoring systems. This work highlights the risk categorisation (chronic diseases, high-risk diseases, age-related diseases), identifies some types of telemonitoring (continuous or non-continuous telemonitoring, short or long-term telemonitoring, everywhere telemonitoring) and allows to identify technologies type (short-range or long-range) used in each context.…”

“…Despite the specific constraints and requirements of Wearable WBANs ( cf . Table 1 ), existing communication technologies, and standards are currently still used for the design of short-term and ready-to-use WBAN solutions [ 25 ]. This is mainly due to the current unavailability of commercial and off-the-shelf IEEE 802.15.6-compliant devices.…”
