Windshield-waste-driven synthesis of hydroxy sodalite

Abstract: We demonstrated the synthesis of hydroxy sodalite (HS) via a simple hydrothermal process using windshield waste as the source material. Acid-treated waste glass was directly used as the silicate precursor. The syntheses were conducted under various NaOHprecursor contents for 1, 12, and 24 h. The crystal structure and morphology of the HS were identified by X-ray diffraction and field-emission scanning electron microscopy. As per the results of the analyses, the HS and zeolite-A phases formed with low NaOH cont… Show more

“…[3][4][5][6][7] SrTa 2 O 6 occurs as three different polymorphs in SrO-Ta 2 O 5 system. [6][7][8][9] Two polymorphs of SrTa 2 O 6 are related to TB symmetry and occur at high temperatures. The b-SrTa 2 O 6 crystallizes at temperatures between 1300-1500 °C, while the b ′ -SrTa 2 O 6 forms at temperatures over 1500 °C.…”

[6][7][8][9] The other polymorph is orthorhombic a-SrTa 2 O 6 occurs at about 1100 °C and below. However, the synthesis of a-SrTa 2 O 6 is difficult with the solid state reaction, so it can be produced by the ux method using strontium borate.…”

“…This feature provides many advantages, particularly the access to small molecules like ammonia and water. Therefore hydroxy sodalite is an attractive material for wide applications, such as hydrogen separation, catalysts and pigment occlusion [35][36]. Samples S5-S8 and S13-S16 obtained as a result of zeolitization with the direct hydrothermal method are characterized by a greater diversity of identified phases in comparison to samples from the indirect fusion method.…”
