In this paper the Windowed Selected Moving Autocorrelation (WSMA) and the Tri-Correlation (TriC) are reviewed first. The Multi-correlation (MulC) is discussed. Then these algorithms are used for indirect sensing of engine misfire. Very often, computation resource limitation exists for real-time applications such as engine controller. The WSMA and TriC offer more opportunities for indirect sensing for engine misfires and other real-time monitor and feedback control applications in the frequency domain due to their high efficiencies. Simulation and vehicle test results for engine misfire sensing are presented in this paper.
