Window effects on the performance of matched filtering for linear frequency modulation signal

Abstract

Matched filtering for linear frequency modulation (LFM) signal is applied more and more widely, and it is required to increase the performance of matched filtering for LFM signal continuously. Adding window is used to achieve this goal. In this article, five typical window functions are selected to act on LFM signal to discuss the impacts of different window functions on the performance of matched filtering for LFM signal. Adding window in the matched filtering technique can control the sidelobes, but broaden the main lobe at the same time. For windows with adjustable parameters, the relation curves between the performance indexes of matched filtering and adjustable parameters are also given. As the adjustable parameters increase, the main lobe broadens and absorbs the sidelobe. So the impulse response width (IRW) of the output signal increases and the peak sidelobe rate (PSLR) decreases.
