Wind-Tunnel Studies on Sand Sedimentation Around Wind-Break Walls of Lanxin High-Speed Railway II and Its Prevention

Abstract: Wind-break walls along Lanxin High-Speed Railway II were studied and approved as effective measures to reduce strong wind damage to the high-speed trains. The results show that sand sedimentation on the leeward sides of wind-break walls along the railway within Gobi Desert could significantly threaten the operation safety of running trains. Different from the current sand sedimentation prevention measures without adequate consideration of the deposition process of airborne sand particles, this study revealed t… Show more

“…Simulation experiments in wind tunnels should generally satisfy the principles of geometric similarity, kinematic similarity, and dynamic similarity [ 22 , 23 ]. In this wind tunnel experiment, the sand used was taken from the original surface sand of the desert, conforming to geometric similarity.…”

“…The synchronizer was able to keep the frequency of laser emission consistent with the frequency of camera shooting, and the computer with the image acquisition card could control the experiment process and save the pictures taken by connecting with the synchronizer and camera. The pictures were spliced and processed via the particle tracking velocimetry (PTV) method to obtain the particle velocity and number distribution [46].…”
