Observations on the examination of Thoroughbred yearlings for idiopathic laryngeal hemiplegia

“…In only four of the 16 horses did every member of the panel fail to hear any adventitious inspiratory noise during the exercise test. One of these 'silent' hemiplegics showed total absence of activity by the left arytenoid, and would have fallen within Baker's (1986) endoscopic criteria for ILH ; the others showed asymmetry as defined above. Three of the 14 horses with laryngeal hemiplegia reported by Hillidge (1986) were 'silent' at exercise.…”
