Wind energy-hydrogen storage hybrid power generation

Abstract: SUMMARYIn this theoretical investigation, a hybrid power generation system utilizing wind energy and hydrogen storage is presented. Firstly, the available wind energy is determined, which is followed by evaluating the e$ciency of the wind energy conversion system. A revised model of windmill is proposed from which wind power density and electric power output are determined. When the load demand is less than the output of the generation, the excess electric power is relayed to the electrolytic cell where it is … Show more

“…Several investigations on small wind turbine field performance have been carried out in recent years, including several papers published in this journal [2,3]. Research covers evaluation of the resource for the utilization of small wind turbines [4], small turbine performance analysis [3,5], thermodynamic analyses [6] and evaluation of hybrid systems with storage [7,8]. Although commercial turbines nowadays show a satisfactory behavior as reliable off-grid power sources, several studies report performance results below specifications [9][10][11].…”

“…Superconducting magnetic energy storage (SMES) units offer quick responses to power fluctuations and the ability to deliver large amounts of power instantaneously, while their limited storage capacity is a weak point for long term operation [8]. Liquid hydrogen (LH 2 ) storage units have the characteristics of large storage capacity [9] and economic efficiency that can make up for the LIQHYSMES. In Section 3, the equivalent models of the components in the micro energy grid for LFC are constructed.…”

“…Katsigiannis and Georgilakis (2008) applied tabu search algorithm (Glover 1989(Glover , 1990 for optimal sizing of a small isolated hybrid power system in which they developed a seventh-order polynomial fitted model to predict the output power of the WTGs. While some of these models (Yang and Aydin 2001;Katsigiannis and Georgilakis 2008) failed to account for the wind shear (variation of wind speed with heights), others (Diaf et al 2007;Ardakani, Dehkordi, and Abedi 2009;Hocaoglu, Gerek, and Kurban 2009a) utilized a cubic spline interpolation with considered piecewise polynomial function to deduce their last term. They also applied an adjusted wind speed model to account for the wind shear using power law relationship.…”

“…Yang and Aydin (2001) carried out a theoretical investigation on windmill and developed a revised model for determining from which the power density and output power of wind turbine generator (WTG). Malinga, Sneckenberger, and Feliachi (2003) used the basic WTG model and a relationship for the power efficiency of the WTG proposed by Justus (1978) to study the dynamics and control the wind turbine as a distributed resource.…”
