Wind Energy Contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals: Case Study on London Array

Abstract: Clean and safe energy sources are essential for the long-term growth of society. Wind energy is rapidly expanding and contributes to many countries’ efforts to decrease greenhouse gas emissions. In terms of sustainable development goals (SDGs), renewable energy development promotes energy security while also facilitating community development and environmental conservation on a global scale. In this context, the current article aims to investigate wind energy’s role within the SDGs. Furthermore, the present st… Show more

“…One of the international laws forced to mitigate global warming, this will also be achieved by studying and implementing renewable energy resources such as wind according to the Paris Agreement to make carbon emissions zero by 2050. This will support achieving climate stabilization goals by 2050, which will support reducing GHG emissions and in reducing global temperature for sustainable development goals (SDG) and clean economic development and to mitigate approximately million tons of carbon dioxide and some countries, such as Nepal plans and motivates a 15% increase in national energy use from renewables with a reduction of 23% of CO2 emissions by 2030, were discussed in [29][30][31][32][33][34]. To achieve this goal, everybody across the globe should keep its footprint.…”

“…Wind energy provides energy day and night with high capacity efficiency, which is superior to solar energy in terms of carbon dioxide emissions reduction and production efficiency. 14 Moreover, wind turbines are a comparatively secure means of operation, and their impact on the environment is inferior to that of traditional power plants. 15 Geothermal energy is a kind of noncarbon renewable energy based on the heat flow in the core, which is a reliable, abundant, and potential energy source.…”

“…In terms of the SDGs, the advancement of renewable energy ensures energy security in the following sectors: transportation, environment, buildings, industry…etc. (Olabi et al, 2023). These renewable energy resources comprise solar, wind, geothermal, salinity gradient, tidal, ocean waves, biofuels and biogas resources.…”
