Will recent advances in AI result in a paradigm shift in Astrobiology and SETI?

Abstract: The steady advances in computer performance and in programming raise the concern that the ability of computers would overtake that of the human brain, an occurrence termed "the Singularity". While comparing the size of the human brain and the advance in computer capacity, the Singularity has been estimated to occur within a few decades although the capacity of conventional computers may reach its limits in the near future.

“…Assuming that a precondition for the evolution of a civilization is life, and that advanced civilizations are longlived (Gale et al 2020;Wright et al 2022) the number of civilizations within a distance a from Earth is given by the product of the biotic and intelligence fractions by the density of stars:…”

“…Panov (2020) examined what post-Singularity ETIs might be like, with an eye towards their detectability. Gale et al (2020) argued that the Singularity is both nigh and universal, and that SETI would therefore do best to search for post-biological intelligences exploiting features such as quantum entanglement for communication. 1 Gray (2020b) described the "extended" Kardashev scale, with humanity's energy supply at 0.72 on the scale, and discusses how it can be generalized beyond energy use to describe, for instance, information or population.…”

“…frequent testing of the progress in student knowledge development, scrutiny of the measured results by me to see if the students followed the procedure correctly. I saw teaching as completed when my understanding of reality and the students' one achieved the status of a "singularity" (Gale et al, 2020). In other words, teaching and learning were successful, if my understanding of data, scientific methods and reality converged at the same end point, as the students understanding of these terms did.…”

“…In a way, my transmissionism and radical constructivism combination led to me expecting the occurrence of a true singularity, i.e. a brain capacity of my brain and the student ones would converge in the same way as that of a computer and human might (Gale et al, 2020). However, the practical picture turned out to be far more complicated.…”
