WiFi and WiMAX Secure Deployments

Abstract: Wireless Broadband offers incredibly fast, "always on" Internet similar to ADSL and sets the user free from the fixed access areas. In order to achieve these features standardisation was achieved for Wireless LAN (WLANs) and Wireless Metropolitan Area Networks (WMANs) with the advent of IEEE802.11 and IEEE802.16 family of standards, respectively. One serious concern in the rapidly developing wireless networking market has been the security of the deployments since the information is delivered freely in the air… Show more

“…If the master key is same between both the sides, authentication is successful. In 802.11 (Georgiou and Trimintzios, 2010) An analysis of pre-shared keys, key-sharing protocols and trusted key distribution framework (TKDF) for AWN has been carried out in (Akram et al, 2016). The results have revealed that the existing security protocols are not specifically tailored for AWN, and therefore, modifications to existing protocols or new protocol may have to be developed for addressing the requirements of AWN.…”

“…DH secret keys have the potential to be recovered by the use of supercomputers within a limited amount of time [62], [63]. This necessitates the periodical update of the secret key between consecutive vehicle pairs in the platoon, which is referred as key freshness [64]. Key freshness is essential to prevent the adversaries from obtaining and decoding the secret keys [65].…”
