Widowmaker Right Coronary Artery Treated With Drug-Eluting Stent Implantation

Abstract: We present a case of a single coronary artery system arising from the right sinus of Valsalva found to have an obstructive mid-vessel lesion with functional evidence of ischemia on stress testing. She was treated with a first-generation Cypher (Cordis, Johnson & Johnson, Hialeah, Florida) drug-eluting stent and remains asymptomatic at 14-year follow-up. ( Level of Difficulty: Intermediate. )

“…They started about 40 years ago and the techniques continue to improve today: balloon angioplasty, bare stent, drug-eluting stent, bioresorbable stent. Figure 4 summarizes the different stents from the material view [19,[23][24][25][26][27][28][29][30]. In-stents coronary restenosis after coronary angioplasty with the bare metal stents, reproduced with permission from [3].…”

Figure 4 summarizes the different stents from the material view [19,[23][24][25][26][27][28][29][30]. It is reported in 2010 that annually about 0.3-0.6% of stenting with DES is followed by stent thrombosis (ST) followed by increased human mortality by 10-30% [18].…”
