Wideband Substrate Integrated Waveguide Chip Filter Using Spoof Surface Plasmon Polariton

Abstract: This article presents a novel wideband bandpass filter based on the integration of a substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) and a spoof surface plasmon polariton (SSPP). An SIW cavity with periodic arrays of meander-slot units is etched on the top metallic layer to achieve the characteristics of a multi-order filter with good performance. The passbands can be flexibly selected by varying the geometric parameters of the SIW and SSPP to adjust the lower and upper sidebands independently. Using a redistribution lay… Show more

“…Similarly, substrate-integrated waveguide (SIW) offers features like high power capacity, low cost, and easy integration with planar structures [6,7,8]. Combining the highpass properties of SIW and half-mode SIW (HMSIW) with the lowpass properties of SSPP, broadband bandpass filters (BPFs) with controllable bandwidths have been previously reported using SIW-and HMSIW-SSPP structures [9,10,11,12,13,14].…”

“…A resonant ring can be added in the middle of the SSPPs’ transmission line [ 11 , 12 , 13 , 14 ] so that the electromagnetic energy can be absorbed at the center frequency of the left parasitic passband. Another type of structure that combines substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) with SSPPs, known as a hybrid SIW-SSPP structure, has also been proposed [ 15 , 16 , 17 ]. By employing the low-pass characteristic of SSPPs and the high-pass characteristic of SIWs, the upper and lower frequencies of the transition bands have been improved at the same time.…”

“…In addition, the SSPP waveguides in [22,23,24] consist of conventional rectangle-shaped unit cells, so there is limited freedom to regulate the dispersion characteristics. Moreover, it is necessary to miniaturize the sizes of rectangle-shaped SSPP unit cells [25,26]. This paper proposes a novel compact and broadband filtering balun based on the N-shaped SSPP structure.…”
