a b s t r a c tThis paper presents a method of approximating the Rician K -factor based on the instantaneous static environment. The strongest signal propagation paths are resolved in order to determine specular and diffuse powers for approximation. The model is experimentally validated in two different urban areas in New South Wales, Australia. Good agreement between the model and experimental data was obtained over short-range communication links, demonstrating the suitability of the model in urban VANETs. The paper concludes with recommendations for methods to account for vehicles in the simulation and incorporating additional phenomena (such as scattering) in the approximation. Crown

Dieser Beitrag gibt einen Ü berblick zur Funkkommunikation in intelligenten Verkehrssystemen (intelligent transport systems, ITS) und bietet einen Einblick in den IEEE 802.11p Standard. Die Ergebnisse umfangreicher Funkkanalmessungen von Fahrzeug zu Fahrzeug und von Fahrzeug zur Infrastruktur werden vorgestellt und die speziellen nicht stationä ren Eigenschaften des Schwundprozesses in der Fahrzeugkommunikation erklä rt. Neben den Messungen werden numerische Simulationsergebnisse iterativer Kanalsch€ atzmethoden fü r den Fahrzeugfunkkanal vorgestellt. Zusä tzlich durchgefü hrte Ü bertragungsexperimente auf Ö sterreichs Autobahnen zeigen den aktuellen Entwicklungsstand des IEEE 802.11p Standards. Basierend auf diesen Erkenntnissen gibt der Beitrag einen Ausblick auf mö gliche Weiterentwicklungen des IEEE 802.11p Standards, um eine verlä ssliche Kommunikation in zukü nftigen ITS zu gewä hrleisten. We present results from channel sounding experiments between two vehicles and from the vehicle to the infrastructure. Specifically, the non-stationary properties of the fading process in vehicular communication channels are explained. Additionally, we also present numerical simulation results of iterative channel estimation algorithms for the vehicular communication channel. Transmission experiments carried out on Austrians motorways exemplify the challenges faced by the IEEE 802.11p standard. Based on these insights we give an outlook on the future development potential of the IEEE 802.11p standard, such that dependable communication can be guaranteed for ITS systems of the next generation.
