Wideband dual‐polarized hybrid fed patch antenna

Abstract: A broadband dual-polarized patch antenna with hybrid feed structure is proposed in this article. Two different feeding mechanisms are designed to excite two orthogonal modes on a single radiating patch. One of the modes is excited by a magnetic-coupled feeding structure, while the other is excited by an electric-coupled feeding structure. The magnetic-coupled feeding structure consists of a metallic loop with a gap and an open-ended transmission line. The electric-coupled feeding structure is composed of a ser… Show more

“…Against that the proposed configuration employs a single feed and stubs for the realization of DP wideband response. Multiple patch parameters and complex feeding techniques are used in the designs reported in [14][15][16][17]. Although wider BW using compact design is reported in [18], it lacks in providing an in-depth explanation about the patch modes concerning the overlapping patches.…”

“…Several techniques like the use of stack resonators [5,6], slot or stub loaded MSAs [7][8][9][10][11], and different probe feeding techniques [12] have been reported for the realization of wider BW, offering polarization agility. The use of parasitic metallic cone and two microstrip feed lines [13], or the combination of multiple patch parameters along with a modified feeding technique [14][15][16][17], leads to a complex design for realizing the dual-polarized (DP) wideband response. A compact and wideband design of DP MSA by using overlapped parasitic patches is reported [18].…”

“…However, these techniques increases the complexity of the structure. Following a recent technique proposed by Balanis et al, both E‐shaped MSA and S‐MSA have been loaded with ferrite rings of suitable dimension by introducing cylindrical grooves on the substrate and then filled with ferrite rings. Embodying the ferrite ring inside the conventional continuous substrate effectively constitutes a hybrid substrate with dielectric‐ferrite‐dielectric composition.…”

“…Various methods like embedding slots or stubs, stack resonators, and different feeding techniques are used to realize DP multi‐band or wideband response 5–9 . The wideband DP designs reported in Ryu and Kishk, 10 Xie et al, 11 and Xue et al 12 are complex in implementation owing to the use of hook shape probes, hybrid feeding, and magnetic loop conductor. A dual band stacked patch antenna employing two feeding probes is reported in Zhou et al, 13 while the stacked design for DP triple band antennas are reported in Falade et al, 14,15 which employs a single feed.…”
