Wideband and compact slot loaded annular ring microstrip antenna using L-probe proximity-feed for wireless communications

Abstract: A wideband orthogonally slot cut annular ring microstrip antenna fed by L-shaped probe is investigated using modal expansion cavity model and circuit theory approach. Simulation of the proposed antenna is performed using Ansoft HFSS and simulated results are compared with the measured and theoretical results. The impedance bandwidth of about 37.46% is observed at resonant frequency 3.15 GHz. The proposed antenna realizes an improvement in bandwidth of 13.46% and miniaturization in physical dimension about 10% … Show more

“…However, the annular ring patch antenna has small dimensions as compared with other patch shapes antenna resonating at the same frequency. An annular ring patch antenna with and without slots becomes the subject of great interest for the engineering researchers due to their various properties which are reported in [19]. Paper [10] presents, a reconfigurable annular ring slot antenna with a switchable polarization which is achieved by turning the pin diodes on or off and circularly polarized (CP) radiation is obtained by introducing protruded slots and strips in the annular ring slot structure.…”

“…In such feeding an additional capacitance is created between the radiating patch and the feed which cancels the inductance of the vertical portion of the L-probe. Consequently, this effect broadens the impedance bandwidth of the antenna [12].…”
